JUST DO IT!
I sometimes wonder how different my life would look if I did not give into the “I don’t feel like it” trap! I read somewhere recently that this makes a big difference between people who are very successful and others who aspire to be. The former group JUST DO IT! (whatever ‘IT’ is) although they may not feel like doing IT, while the latter gives into their ‘I don’t feel like it!’ mood.
When I was growing up, my mother used to say, “Don’t put off what you can do today for tomorrow because tomorrow may never come.” If only, I had listen to her earlier. Truth be told, I fell into the latter group for a long time and sometimes revert to my old ways. I procrastinate and put things that would help me progress off. But… why do we do this? That is – put off the things that we are supposed to be doing. The answer varies for each of us, so I can only speak for myself. Most of the time it was self-doubt! Not feeling that I would be successful if I went ahead and did it!
Mother Teresa, as many of you know, was a Roman Catholic nun. She is known all over the world for her life’s work of caring for the poor in Calcutta, India. Not only did she care for the needy but she gave them hope. After she died, it was revealed that this woman of service and known heroine had deep-seated spiritual doubt. What distinguishes her from many, then and now, is that her doubts didn’t prevent her from taking ACTION.
- There is something behind your, “I don’t feel like it.” What is it?
- What excuses do you often use to talk yourself out of following through?
- What are 3 positive things that could happen if you just did it and not give into this self sabotaging habit?
